Most vehicles operate on a 5 wire basis for standard rear lighting. It's important to note that Holden Colorado uses a 4 wire system where they combine both the Brake and Taillight into one wire. These are then run at separate voltages to achieve Tail/Park vs Brake/Stop.
If you are looking to purchase a LED Tail Light where the Brake and Tail Lights are two separate sections. You will need to know that the Brake light function will act as both the Tail and Brake functions. In essence, you lose the separate tail light function.
